Heartfelt congratulations to Bill Gardner, long-serving member of the WWHSHL family, on his appointment as Queen’s Counsel. Queen’s counsel (QC) is an honorary title given to a lawyer by the lieutenant-governor in council, based on recommendations from the justice minister and an advisory council. Recipients must demonstrate outstanding practice, show integrity and leadership, make contributions to excellence in the profession and have practiced for at least 10 years.
Bill was officially recognized along with his colleagues at a special ceremony last week. “The individuals we honour today are richly deserving of the title of Queen’s counsel,” said Lt. Gov. Janice Filmon. “Each has made significant and enduring contributions to our community, our justice system, and our province in keeping with the highest ideals of the legal profession. It is an honour and privilege to recognize their outstanding achievements in service to the Canadian Crown.”
Bill Gardner currently serves on the WWHSHL Executive and as the SJR Eagles' Assistant Coach. He has been actively contributing to the League since its inception 24 years ago. In addition, Bill is a member of the executive, and vice-chair, of the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, and is head of Pitblado Law’s Labour and Employment and Healthcare practice areas, Chair of the Manitoba Employers Council and Co-Chair of the Management Caucus of the Labour Management Review Committee. Bill practices extensively in all areas of Labour and Employment law advising clients in both the private and public sectors, as well as acts as counsel to major healthcare institutions, manufacturing operations, and construction companies.
