Melissa’s WWHSHL Experience:

“I remember being so excited when we found out CJS would be starting a hockey program. I was so proud to represent CJS and play with people that I got to see every day in the hallways. It was an honour to wear the flambeau. Our second year in the league, we almost didn’t have a team. Numbers were low, and it was the first year Winnipeg had AAA teams. I made the Winnipeg Ice that year and was unsure if playing on both teams was possible. I am so glad I decided to play because it was one of my most memorable seasons as an athlete. We made it to the finals that year. I have never been a part of something so special. I remember my friend getting to sing O Canada before one of our games, there was a huge crowd, and we played the game of our lives. Unfortunately, we didn’t come out of that series on top, but the memories that have stuck with me mean so much more. Thank you to the WWHSHL for all their hard work advocating for female hockey over the years. I am proud to have played in the league and look forward to coaching for many years to come.”
