25th Anniversary Alumni Profile - SCI Sabres Hannah Tyner (nee Kostiuk)

Team: Springfield Sabres

Season: 2012-13

Position: Center

Awards: Player of the Game, Vets All Star

“Hannah was our captain during our inaugural year in 2012-2013 and was essential to our team both on and off the ice.  One the ice, she was an extremely strong skater who played at 100% no matter the situation.  Her passion for the game was infectious.  Off the ice, you could not ask for a better attitude.  Always positive, always smiling, and always willing to help, it truly was a pleasure working with her at the rink each day.” - Coaches Christian Milks & Dustin Douglas

Accomplishments Post- High School:

  • Played 3 years of hockey for MacEwan Griffins University in Alberta
  • Graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Kinesiology and Education.

What is she doing today?

  • Hannah is a grade 5 teacher in Alberta.

“My experience playing high school hockey was great. The team atmosphere and hockey environment were definitely a highlight of my time in high school. The best part about the high school team was feeling like I was able to play every position (except goalie). Whether I was being thrown on defence during a power play or up playing forward during a penalty kill, was great. I played high level hockey prior to high school hockey, and I was a one position player. It was a treat to float around! My high school hockey experience allowed me to meet teammates who I normally never would have met, and then became friends! Overall, my experience will last a lifetime... It has almost been 8 years since I graduated, and I still think about it.” - Hannah Tyner
