Playoff Semi-Finals, Week ending March 3, 2023

Division 1: Isabela Huculak, Churchill Bulldogs, Forward #17 

Isabela had a good semi-final series despite her team’s rocky, game one start Tuesday. The CJS Olympiens dominated, racking up goals for a 10-3 win over the Bulldogs. Despite the score, Isabela played a solid game and picked up an assist. Determined to avoid a second loss, Isabela turned up the heat during game 2 Thursday. Her hard work, battles on the boards and in the corners, kept the competition at bay and earned her the game winning goal in a thrilling 2-1 victory.  In game 3, Isabella showed the same passion with a quick goal, and with the score tied in the third, she dug deep and once again scored the game winning goal for a 4-3 game and series win. Congratulations Isabela!

Division 2: Annick Espenell, Believeau Barracudas, Defence #2 

Annick was a solid, determined player helping the Barracudas claim the semi-final series win against the Lorette Scorpions in two straight games. During game one Monday, Annick dominated the ice offensively and defensively, eventually taking control and scoring the lone goal and game winner at the 5:00 minute mark of the 3rd period.  Game 2 Wednesday was another battle against the Scorpions with Annick assisting on 2 goals in their 4-2 game and series win.  Congratulations Annick!  

Division  3: Emily Schmeichel, Dakota Lancers, Goalie #1 

A hot goalie at the right time matters, and during the Division 3 semi-final series Emily’s efforts were crucial to the Lancers’ semi-final series win against the CPET Canadiennes.  In game one Tuesday, Emily had an outstanding performance making 24 of 24 saves, earning her a shut out and her team a critical 1-0 win. In the second game of the series Wednesday, Emily once again came up big, stopping 19 of 20 shots, many of them excellent scoring opportunities, claiming a 2-1 win and series victory.  Congratulations Emily! 

 

Quarter Finals, Week ending February 24, 2023

Division 1: Sara Johnstone, SMA Flames, Forward #7 

Captain Sara and the Flames are off to a great start in the playoffs. She was strong on face offs in both ends and scored a goal in their 5-1 win in game one of their series against the VMC Trojans on Tuesday. In game two on Thursday, Sara again played her heart out but the Trojans prevailed scoring the winner in over time. In a barn burner game three on Friday, Sara was again dominate on the forecheck and below the goal line all game long and scored the winning goal in the Flames 2-1 victory as she showed her ability to win puck battles.

Division 2: Jaicee Huberdeau, Lorette Scorpions, Forward #17

The battle between the Huskies and the Scorpions went to over time in the third game of a three game series with Jaicee playing a significant role. The Huskies won the first game on Tuesday 3-1 holding Jaicee off the scoreboard but, in game two on Wednesday she came back hungrier than ever. Using her hockey sense, skill, incredible skating speed and play making ability she could not be stopped, scoring 2 goals in the Scorpions 3-2 win. Game three on Friday saw her once again dominate as she scored the first goal to open for Lorette and then scored the BIG one, the winning goal in overtime to win the series.

Division 3: Gabriela Lerat, Westwood Warriors, Forward #6 

Gabriela demonstrates all the great qualities you look for in a captain such as leadership skills, on ice skills and a positive attitude. In game one on Tuesday, she dominated throughout the game but was unable to crack the scoreboard in a 2-0 loss to the Springfield Sabres. Game two on Wednesday was a different story as Gabriela was very active in the offensive and defensive zones resulting in her scoring 2 goals in their 5-1 win. In game three on Friday, she once again showed her leadership qualities by scoring the 3rd goal in their very exciting 4-3 overtime win to win the series.

 

Playoff Qualifying Week ending February 17, 2023

Division 1: Cherine Nichols, River East Kodiaks, Forward #8

It’s playoff time and the intensity increases as did Cherine Nichols’ who was on fire. On Monday in game one against the Miles Mac Buckeyes, she worked very hard all game long generating many scoring chances and scoring 2 goals in a 7-4 loss for the Kodiaks. In game two on Wednesday, Cherine popped in a goal and added an assist in their 5-4 win against the Buckeyes. However, she really put it in over drive for game three on Friday as she was a huge part of the Kodiaks’ offensive effort. Getting her team on the board first, she set the tone early. She also scored the winning goal with only 19 seconds left in the third in their 4-3 win to take the series. Congratulations Cherine! 

Division 2: Kate Steiman, SJR Eagles, Forward #11 

It was a close and hard working series between the SJR Eagles and WKC Wolverines in which Eagles’ captain Kate Steiman showed the way. In game one on Tuesday, she scored 2 goals in their intensive 3-1 win. There was no rest for Kate as she played hard all game. Game two was played the next day in a very loud and boisterous rink with the fans cheering throughout. Kate started strong assisting on the first goal of the game and scored the game winner in a truly thrilling 2-1 victory. Congratulations Kate!

 

Last week of Regular Season ending February 10, 2023

Division 1: Peyton Mages, St. Mary’s Flames, Forward #9

Peyton helped her team with a 4-3 win against the Churchill Bulldogs on Tuesday. She popped in 2 goals while also playing very strong hockey away from the puck. Her game winning tally was nothing short of spectacular as she took the puck in her defensive zone and moved methodically down the ice to score the winner with less than 3 minutes remaining in the game. The next day she helped her team beat the stubborn Miles Mac Buckeyes in a shootout win of 3-2 by controlling the puck throughout the game and even scoring one in the shootout. Congratulations Peyton! 

Division 2: Hailey Dunn, WKC Wolverines, Forward #4 

Hailey may not have scored any goals in her team’s 4-2 win over the SJR Eagles on Tuesday, but she was all over the ice. She played great hockey both ways, controlling the puck and skating back hard to help prevent goals. The next day Hailey was busy as she scored 2 goals and added an assist including the game winning goal with 15 seconds left in the game. She battled hard for loose pucks and did not give up in front of the net leading to a 3-2 win against the Beliveau Barracudas. Congratulations Hailey! 

Division 3: Dylan Chudzy, Springfield Sabres, Defence #9 

Dylan ended the regular season playing an important role in 2 hard earned wins for the Sabres. On Tuesday, she broke up plays in both ends against a hard working CPET Cannadiennes team earning herself a goal and a 3-2 win for the Sabres. She worked hard from the drop of the puck to the final whistle. The next day she was at it again as she scored another goal in their 4-1 win over the PCI Saints, who put up a tough battle. Congratulations Dylan!

 

For the week ending February 3, 2023

Division 1: Gwen Ostermann, VMC Trojans, Forward #2

Friday’s game between VMC Trojans and Glenlawn Lions consisted of 2 heavy weights. Trojans showed their power, led by Gwen Ostermann who played with determination and skill earning a hat trick in their 7-2 win. She was a stand out for her team and seemed to create excitement every time she was near the puck. Congratulations Gwen!

Division 2: Kayla Scoryk, Selkirk Royals, Forward #7

Kayla Scoryk had a remarkable game in a memorable match up between the SJR Eagles and the Selkirk Royals on Thursday. She took a holding penalty on a breakaway that led to a penalty shot goal for SJR giving them a two goal lead with four minutes remaining in the third. But this only fuelled Kayla to work harder, she scored 3 goals in just over 3 minutes including the winner in over time to give her team a 4-3 win. Congratulations Kayla!

Division 3: Grace Wozney, Springfield Sabres, Goalie #31

Grace Wozney was a star in the Sabres thrilling game against league leading Murdoch McKay on Thursday. She made some incredible stops including 14 of 15 shots in a very busy third period. After stopping 26 of 27 shots, Grace and the Sabres ended the game with a 2-1 win under their belt. Congratulations Grace!

 

For the week ending January 27, 2023

Division 1: Annika Devine, CJS Olympiens, Forward #12

Annika Devine had a stellar week, leading her Olympiens to two wins. It was a scoring barrage for the Olympiens as they put up 11 goals in two games. On Tuesday Annika recorded 1 goal and 1 assist in her teams 6-0 win over the Miles Mac Buckeys. She then followed up with another outstanding game two days later, tallying another goal and assist in the Olympiens 5-4 dramatic shoot out win over the CSLR Renards on Thursday. Congratulations Annika!

Division 2: Bronwyn Holroyde, Sturgeon Heights Huskies, Forward #13

Bronwyn Holroyde is leading her team in points after her 4-point week. On Thursday she was the primary assist midway through the second period to tie the game at 2’s in the Huskies 4-3 loss to the Beliveau Barracudas. On Friday she led the Huskies with 2 goals and an assist in their 5-2 win against the Lorette Scorpions. She was able to give her team their second lead by scoring on the power play. She then added an insurance goal with 3:49 remining in the third to salt away the win for the Huskies. Congratulations Bronwyn!

Division 3: Emily Kay, CPET Canadiennes, Goaltender #31

Emily Kay led the Canadiennes to three wins this week. On Monday she stopped all 11 shots in CPET’s 2-0 win over the PCI Saints. She followed up her Monday shutout by stopping 16 of 17 shots in their 2-1 defeat of the Dakota Lancers on Thursday. Finally in her third game in 5 days, she stopped 16 of 17 shots again as her team finished 3-0 for the week, concluding with another hard fought 2-1 defeat of Murdoch MacKay on Friday. Congratulations Emily!

 

For the week ending January 20, 2023

Division 1: Rio Pierre, Shaftesbury Titans, Forward #9

Rio Pierre lit 🔥 up the score sheet in each of her teams three wins this week. She started off on Monday by tallying 3 assists in her teams convincing 7-2 win over the Churchill Bulldogs. On Wednesday she hit the back of the net with three straight goals, 2 late in the first period and another midway through the second to put the game away over the Miles Mac Buckeyes in a 8-0 thumping. On Thursday not 24 hours later, Rio once again propelled the Titans to a 7-2 win over the Bulldogs. She saved her best for last netting 4 goals and adding an assist for a 5 point game. Congratulations Rio!

Division 2: Alyssa Downing, Garden City Gophers, Forward #20

Alyssa Downing had a 4 point week while leading the Gophers in a perfect week. (2 wins in 2 games?) On Thursday Alyssa added to her point total for the year with two assist in her teams 4-1 win on the road over the Lorette Scorpions. On Friday she moved from providing the helpers to tickling the twine with 2 goals against the WKC Wolverines. She scored the second and third goals of the game in the Gophers 3-0 win. Congratulations Alyssa!

Division 3: Kaitlyn Davy, Murdoch MacKay, Forward #4

Kaitlyn Davy had a solid week as she scored the OT winner in her teams hard fought 2-1 win over the Dakota Lancers on Monday. On Wednesday she earned herself another point with the primary assist on her teams loan goal in a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat by their neighbouring Transcona rival, the CPET Canadiennes. Congratulations Kaitlyn!

 

For the week ending January 13, 2023

Division 1: Kaylee McDonald, River East Kodiaks, Goalie #1

Kaylee McDonald is on fire as she back stopped her team to a 2-1 record to start the second half of the season. She had a 2-1 victory over the Shaftesbury Titans on the first Thursday of the second half, after making an outstanding 30 saves on 31 shots. On Tuesday she gave her team a chance to win in a wildly high scoring affair against the CSLR Renards but, after facing 45 shots the Kodiaks fell 7-5. Kaylee bounced back with another 2-1 victory to book end the week. She made 15 of 16 saves against a tough opponent in the Miles Mac Buckeyes on Friday. Congratulations Kaylee!

Division 2: Megan Tomes, WKC Wolverines, Forward #19

Megan Tomes started the second half strong, recording points in three of the Wolverines first four games back. Tomes was a force to be reckoned with, recording 2 goals and adding 4 assists in her team’s 10-0 win over the SJR Eagles on opening day of the second half of the season. The following day she added an assist and started the shootout with a snipe past the Garden City Gopher's goalie to give her team all they needed to win the game by a score of 2-1. On Wednesday she potted another 2 goals against the Selkirk Royals bringing her to 4 goals and 5 assists for a whopping total of 9 points. Congratulations Megan!

Division 3: Heidi Taylor, CPET Canadiennes, Forward #15

Heidi Taylor started the new year strong notching a goal and an assist in her teams 3-2 win over the Dakota Lancers on January 6th. She then added to her steller play with two more assists in her teams 2-0 win over the Westwood Warriors on Thursday. Heidi has now doubled her point total for a total of 8 points this season. Congratulations Heidi!

 

For the week ending December 21, 2022

 

Division 1: Delainey Rigaux, Glenlawn Lions, Forward #16

When the going gets tough the tough get going and #16 Delainey is tough. On Wednesday, her grit earned her a late 3rd period goal, scoring with only 1:34 left to tie the game. She then scored the winning goal in overtime at the 3:00 mark helping Glenlawn squeak by with a 3-2 win over the relentless Miles Mac Buckeyes. Congratulations Delainey!

Division 2: Cassandra Carvalho, Garden City Gophers, Forward #16

Cassandra had an excellent game against the Sturgeon Heights Huskies. Cassandra scored 4 of her teams 5 goals in their 5-1 victory on Tuesday, two of which were unassisted as she made a play in her own end to turn the puck over and went end to end to score with 2 great solo efforts. She also played a strong game in her own end as she was always helping out. Congratulations Cassandra!

Division 3: Grace Kotzer, CPET Canadiennes, Forward #7

Hard working, team player, leader and friend to all is what describes Grace. She once again skated hard in her teams 2-0 victory over the Springfield Sabres on Friday. Grace has played 11 games and leads her team in scoring with 10 goals and 8 assists as a result of playing hard from the drop of the puck to the final whistle. Congratulations Grace!

 

For the week ending December 9, 2022 

Division 1:  Olivia Price, CJS Olympiens, Forward #10

Olivia Price had an outstanding week. On Tuesday, she helped her team squeak by the talented Shaftesbury Titans by a score of 4-3, putting up one goal and an assist. Her goal was scored on a great back and forth passing play with her assisting teammate. Three days later, Olivia dominated in the Olympiens game over the VMC Trojans, scoring 2 goals in their 7-1 win. Congratulations Olivia!

Division 2: Emma Thompson, SJR Eagles, Forward #13 

After a successful PCI Classic the week previous, Emma played an outstanding game on Thursday vs the Selkirk Royals, scoring one goal in regulation time and then the shoot out winner for a 3-2 win. Congratulations Emma!

Division 3: Payton Zubec, Westwood Warriors, Goalie #30 

Watching Payton play, she exemplifies the old age that suggests a great goalie is the backbone of any team. On Tuesday, Payton stopped all shots in a 2-0 win over the Springfield Sabres. Friday, Payton helped her team beat the division's top team, Murdoch MacKay, in a thrilling 4-3 win. She made key saves throughout the game and one huge save with just 27 seconds left in the third. Congratulations Payton!

 

For the week ending December 2, 2022

Division 1: Paige Dixon, SMA Flames, Goalie #1

SMA Flames claimed two victories last week with Paige dominating in net.  On Wednesday vs the Churchill Bulldogs, fans were treated to a thrilling win with Paige stopping 33 of 37 shots in regulation time, and 10 of 11 in the shout out, for a 5-4 win. Two days later vs. the River East Kodiaks, Paige stopped all 22 shots on net for a 4-0 shut out win.  Congratulations Paige!

Division 2: Sarah Craig, Beliveau Barracudas, Defence #18

Sarah helped her team win two games this week. On Wednesday, Sarah scored 1 goal and added an assist in a hard fought 3-2 win over the Oak Park Raiders. A day later, she picked up where she left off, skating hard, back checking and fighting for puck possession. She earned another assist in her team’s 5-1 win over the SJR Eagles. Congratulations Sarah! 

Division 3: Ashlyn Salamon, Dakota Lancers, Forward #24

On Thursday, Ashlyn, one of the Lancers’ leading scorers, used desire and strength to control the puck resulting in 2 goals and 2 assists for a 5-0 win over the PCI Saints.  Ashlyn’s skill allowed her to dominate the ice and her performance was fan pleasing. Congratulations Ashlyn!

 

For the week ending November 25, 2022

Division 1: Annabelle Perreault, VMC Trojans, Goalie #1  

Annabelle was red hot in all her games this week. On Tuesday, she was the difference maker in her team's 4-2 win over the Shaftesbury Titans, stopping 44 of 46 shots despite her team being outshot by the Titans 46 to 17.  On Friday, Annabelle minded the net for a barn burner against last season's champion CJS Olympiens.  She stopped 25 out of 29 shots for a gallant come back in a 4-3 loss.  Congratulations Annabelle! 

Division 2: Sophia Heidinger, JH Bruns Broncos, Defence #16

Sophia Heidinger scored 3 goals and added 2 assists in a wild 7-4 win against the Sturgeon Heights Huskies Monday.  Sophia’s speed moving the puck up the ice was exceptional and she was able to skate past many of her opponents. The next day, she played her heart out in a extremely competitive game and 4-2 lost against last season’s Champion Sanford Sabres. Sophia has proven to be an extremely hard working, clean and highly skilled player. She is the Broncos most talented player and leading scorer with 16 points so far this season. Congratulations Sophia!  

Division 3: Sadie Maciura, Westwood Warriors, Forward #19 

The Westwood Warriors played their hearts out on Friday with Sadie leading the way through hard work and determination. She anticipated the plays and used her teammates looking for a pass/play at the net setting up scoring opportunities throughout the game. She also scored 2 goals in a 4-0 win over the Springfield Sabres.  Congratulations Sadie! 

 

For the week ending November 18, 2022

Division 1: Mikaela Nimetz, Shaftesbury Titans, Forward #5

Mikaela had a fantastic 4-point week.  On Thursday, Mikaela worked hard, end to end, creating opportunities for a team win against the CSLR Renards. She gave her team a chance when she potted a mid-third period goal bringing them within 2. The next day against the River East Kodiaks, Mikaela shone again, tallying a goal and adding two assists including the secondary assist on the game winning goal for a convincing Titans’ 6-3 win over the River East Kodiaks. Congratulations Mikaela!

Division 2: Keira Mason-Vandel, Sturgeon Heights Huskies, Forward #8

Kiera Mason-Vandel dominated this week, leading her team to their fifth straight win their 5-0 season. Keira had a stellar performance registering three points in the 4-2 victory. She extended the Huskies lead late in the first period less than a minute after the games opening goal. She then added two assists in the third period, first on the games winning goal and then started the passing play on the insurance goal with 1-minute remaining.  Congratulations Keira!

 Division 3: Abby Reichert, PCI Saints, Goalie #1

Abby Reichert kept her Saints in two contests this week, standing on her head in both games. On Tuesday, she stopped 49 of 51 shots, including 25 in the final frame for a save percentage of .96 % frustrating the visiting CPET Canadiennes. Abby then followed that stellar performance with another on Thursday, where she led her team to their first win of the season.  Abby aggravated Murdoch MacKay stopping 42 of 44 shots. She had a save percentage for the week of 0.955%.  Congratulations Abby!

 

For the week ending November 10, 2022

Division 1: Talia Jones, CSLR Renards, Forward #18

In Tuesday’s game against the VMC Trojans, Talia Jones was involved in most of the scoring plays. She skated hard and consistently created scoring opportunities, earning three points for the game with two goals and an assist.  Congratulations Talia! 

Division 2:  Maisie Duffin, Beliveau Barracudas, Forward #17

Maisie Duffin, the Barracudas power forward, had a commanding performance Tuesday in the Barracudas’ game against the Selkirk Royals scoring all 4 goals in their 4-1 win. Maisie was a standout player throughout the game and a threat every time she stepped on the ice. Maisie is the Barracudas’ leading scorer with 10 points for the season. Congratulations Maisie!

Division 3: Sara Taylor, Murdoch Mackay, Goalie #1

When a goalie is hot it usually results in a win, and for Murdoch MacKay’s goalie Sara Taylor, it meant 2 wins this week.  On Monday vs. the PCI Saints, Sara stopped all 14 shots directed her way for a 3-0 shut out win. Two days later, she stopped 20 of the 22 shots for a 5-2 win against the Westwood Warriors.  Congratulations Sara!

 

For the week ending November 4, 2022

Division 1: Selene Wozney, Churchill Bulldogs, Defence #19

The Churchill Bulldogs a force this week. Leading the way in two team victories was their power defensive player Selene Wozney. Showing that the best defence is a good offensive in their 3-1 win over the VMC Trojans,  Selene scored the winning goal with an assist on the first goal. Continuing her dominance on Thursday, she carried the puck out of the zone constantly and pressed offensively scoring 3 goals to secure a 6-3 win over the CSLR Renards.  Selene is the Bulldogs leading scorer with 8 points this season. Congratulations Selene! 

Division 2: Kaitlyn Hulme, Oak Park Raiders, Forward #16

Kaitlyn Hulme had an amazing game against the Selkirk Royals on Friday, scoring 1 goal and assisting on 3 others significantly contributing to her team’s 4-0 win. Kaitlyn worked hard and showed off her skills each shift with only one speed- fast. Her performance efforts in all zones were unending, creating multiple scoring opportunities for the Raiders.  Congratulations Kaitlyn! 

Division 3: Brenya Kapusta, Dakota Lancers, Forward #10

Brenya Kapusta had a great week helping the Lancers secure two game victories.  On Tuesday against the Springfield Sabres, Brenya scored 2 goals and an assist in their 3-2 win. She was the best game player on the ice, constantly fore checking and back checking throughout the game. On Friday, she also scored the Lancers only goal in their 4-1 loss to Murdoch Mackay. Brenya is the Lancers leading scorer with 7 points so far this season. Congratulations Brenya! 

 

For the week ending October 28, 2022

Division 1: Becca Zubricki, Miles Mac Buckeyes, Forward #21

Becca Zubricki was red hot in the Buckeyes game against the River East Kodiaks on Monday, scoring 1 goal and adding 3 assists in a convincing 6-1 win. Becca cleverly set up her teammates and come back hard to help break up the Kodiaks’ foray into their zone. Two days later, she assisted a goal in their game against the CSLR Renards for a 5-point week. Congratulations Becca!  

Division 2: Ella Manness, Sanford Sabres, Forward #2

On Tuesday, Ella Manness dominated the ice in her team’s game against the WKC Wolverines.  She scored 3 goals and assisted two more, ensuring the Sabres squeaked by the Wolverines to claim a 6-5 win. Ella deftly moved offensively and defensively, creating scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates.  Congratulations Ella! 

Division 3: Kate Everett, Springfield Sabres, Forward #16

During Friday’s game against the Westwood Warriors, Sabres’ hard-working forward Kate Everett scored the game tying goal for her team, followed by the over-time goal for a 4-3 win. It was truly a clutch play performed by a dedicated player.  Congratulations Kate!

 

For the week ending October 21, 2022

Division 1: Jeri-Ann Lafleche, CJS Olympiens, Forward #16

CJS Olympiens’ Jeri-Ann Lafleche started the season on fire with a 5-point week. In the Olympiens’ 5-2 win over the Shaftesbury Titans October 14, Jeri earned a goal and an assist. On October 18, she added 2 assists in a 7-1 victory over the VMC Trojans, and two days later, she popped in another goal in their 3-0 win over the CSLR Renards. Jeri-Ann forechecked and backchecked continually helping her team win their first 3 games of the season.  Congratulations Jeri-Ann! 

Division 2: Chloe Willet, Lorette Scorpions, Forward #9

The Lorette Scorpions made the move from Division 3 this season, winning their first 3 games. Chloe Willet scored in all three.  On opening day, Chloe scored a goal in the Scorpions hard fought 5-3 win over the SJR Eagles. On October 17, she scored again their 3-2 win over the Sanford Sabres. Two days later, she followed up with 2 goals in their 5-0 victory over the WKC Wolverines.  Congratulations Chloe! 

Division 3: Emily Emms, Murdoch Mackay, Forward #14

Emily Emms worked hard to help her team win 3 games in the opening week of play. Murdoch’s first game on October 14 was a nail biter, resulting in a 3-2 win over the Westwood Warriors with Emily scoring a goal. Three days later in their battle against the PCI Saints, Emily helped her team claim their second victory with the only goal and a 1-0 win in OT.  On October 19, Emily scored a goal and an assist to secure the 4-3 win over the CPET Canadiennes.  Congratulations Emily!
